Geoffrey Cumming – Chairman of the Board
Mr. Cumming is Vice-Chairman of Gardiner Group Capital Limited of Toronto, Ontario, Deputy Chairman of Emerald Capital Limited and Managing Director of Zeus Capital Limited, both of Auckland, New Zealand, private international investment companies. In addition, he sits on the board of directors of Cyries Energy Inc. of Calgary, and of The New Zealand Refining Company. He was formerly President and Chief Executive Officer of Gardiner Oil and Gas Limited, a publicly traded Canadian petroleum company, and Chairman of Western Oil Sands Inc. He is a past Governor of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers and a past Chairman of the New Zealand branch of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO). Mr. Cumming holds a BA in Economics (Honours) from the University of Calgary and an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Andrew Ferrier
Mr. Ferrier is Chief Executive Officer of the Fonterra Co-operative Group, the world's leading exporter of dairy products. He has more than 20 years of senior executive experience. Mr. Ferrier has served as President of Redpath Sugars, and subsequent to that as President & Chief Executive Officer of Tate & Lyle North America Sugars Inc. Prior to joining Fonterra he headed GSW Inc., a publicly-traded Canadian company selling branded consumer building and water products. Mr. Ferrier received a BBA from the University of New Brunswick and an MBA from Concordia University.
Randy Goldstein – CEO
Mr. Goldstein is a founding member of OptiSolar’s management team and guides the company’s direction to become a major vertically-integrated solar power provider. Under his leadership, OptiSolar has assembled a world-class team with a proven track record in strategic management, solar photovoltaics technology and commercialization, volume manufacturing construction, and utility scale project development. Mr. Goldstein has over 25 years experience in the development and financing of electricity and energy projects. Mr. Goldstein has made a career of successfully recognizing and bringing together people to commercialize innovative energy sources. He has developed and financed projects including solar, geothermal power, waste fuels, and Canadian oil sands. He is a founder and Director of OPTI Canada, co-inventor of the OrCrude process and holds three patents. Mr. Goldstein holds a BA in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley and a MSc in Energy Management and Policy from the University of Pennsylvania.
Alisa Gravitz
Ms. Gravitz is President of Co-op America Foundation, Inc., a national nonprofit whose mission is to catalyze the development of globally sustainable economies. For over 20 years, Ms. Gravitz has led Co-op America in developing marketplace solutions to social and environmental problems, identifying key tipping points in markets that will lead to sustainability in that sector. Co-op America also manages the programs of the Social Investment Forum (500 investment companies) and the Fair Trade Federation (150 fair trade businesses and organizations). Ms. Gravitz also serves as the director of Co-op America’s solar program, the Solar Catalyst Group. She authored Co-op America's acclaimed guide to social investing, with over a million copies in print. Ms. Gravitz serves on the boards of the Social Investment Forum, Co-op America, Ceres, Network for Good, Positive Futures Network, and the Anacostia Watershed Society. She helped launch Business for Social Responsibility and served on its founding board. Prior to Co-op America, Ms. Gravitz worked on renewable energy and energy efficiency for the Carter administration, and market and economic development issues in both the public and private sectors. Ms. Gravitz earned her MBA from Harvard University and her BA in Economics and Environmental Science from Brandeis University.
Marv Keshner – Chief Scientist
Dr. Keshner is a founding member of OptiSolar’s management team and has driven the company’s research and development efforts to continuously improve cost-effective, manufacturing-ready solar photovoltaics solutions. Dr. Keshner brings to OptiSolar 20 years of leadership experience at Hewlett-Packard. There, he served as a center director for HP laboratories, Chief Technology Officer for HP’s mobile computing business and one of the CTO’s for HP’s imaging and printing business. During this time, he also drove technology responsible for the success of HP’s $1 billion tape storage business and led the development of the DVD+RW rewritable DVD. Dr. Keshner holds a BS, MS and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and is the holder of a dozen patents.
Robert Puchniak
Mr. Puchniak has over 30 years of operational and financial experience within the energy sector. He has been the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of James Richardson & Sons, Limited, an investment holding corporation, since March 2001 and prior thereto, was Vice President, Finance and Investment with James Richardson & Sons, Limited since November 1996. Mr. Puchniak was President and Chief Executive Officer of Tundra Oil & Gas Limited, a private oil and gas corporation, from January 1989 to April 2003. He is a director of a number of public and private corporations including OPTI Canada Inc., James Richardson International Limited, Tundra Oil & Gas Limited, Richardson Partners Financial Holdings Limited, Strad Energy Services Ltd. and Lombard Realty Limited. Mr. Puchniak holds a B.Comm. (Honours) from the University of Manitoba and was awarded the University Gold Medal for his achievements. He earned a Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1975.
Phil Rettger – Executive Vice President
Mr. Rettger is a founding member of OptiSolar’s management team and is charged with helping to establish and execute the strategic direction of OptiSolar. With over 25 years experienced in strategy, project development, and technology commercialization, Mr. Rettger has been instrumental in bringing innovative electricity and energy sources to market including solar, hydroelectric, waste fuels, and Canadian oil sands. Mr. Rettger is a co-founder of OPTI Canada, and co-inventor of the OrCrude process. He is a co-founder of Oxford Energy and is one of four inaugural research partners to the MIT Energy Initiative in 2007. He holds 10 patents related to energy and electricity generation technologies. Mr. Rettger received a BS in Economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from Harvard.
Mac H. Van Wielingen
Mr. Van Wielingen provides leadership support for ARC Financial Corp. with a focus on strategy, corporate development and investment decision-making. He was a founder of ARC Financial Corp. in 1989 and ARC Energy Trust in 1996. ARC Financial Corporation is a leading private equity investment management company focused on the oil and gas sector in Canada with currently approximately $2 billion of capital under management. ARC Energy Trust is one of Canada’s largest oil and gas royalty trusts with current production of approximately 65,000 barrels of oil equivalent and approximately $5 billion of total market capitalization. Mr. Van Wielingen is Chairman of the board of directors of ARC Energy Trust, a past and current director of numerous other companies within the oil and gas sector, and is active in various capacities in the community and the not-for-profit sector. He is also President of Viewpoint Capital Corporation, a private family-owned investment company, and President of Viewpoint Charitable Foundation, a private charitable foundation.
